Nurturing Achievement: Growing and learning together

Welcome to Battyeford CE (VC) Primary

Expectations for pupils’ behaviour and conduct are consistently high.Lessons are focused and this is reflected in pupils’ good attitudes to learning. Pupils are proud of their school and are courteous and confident to engage in conversation. They listen well to adults and their peers, and show respect for the views of others. Attainment at the end of key stage 1 has been consistently good for the last three years and has steadily increased in KS2 and is now above the national average in reading, writing and mathematics. Tag Rugby Success!

Great news yesterday. Our Y5 and Y6 tag rugby team were a resounding success at the Kirklees Schools festival. The squad of 8 boys and 4 girls finished in 3rd place out of 34 schools. In their group they defeated teams from Carlinghow, Kirkburton, St Thomas's, St Patricks, Boothroyd, Lindley and Rowley Lane. They went on to beat Hartshead in the quarter-finals before losing to Christ Church Academy in the semi-final. The team then had a play off game with Kirkburton Middle School to decide 3rd place. The game was tied at 1-1 at full time, taking the teams into a "golden try" sudden death extra time. After an awesome defensive effort lasting almost 15 minutes, the team finally broke away and scored the winning try. This win meant that the team qualified for the prestigious West Yorkshire Youth Games in July.

A great effort from everyone involved. You made our school very proud!
