Schools and Local Authorities cannot charge for:
an admission application to any state funded school;
education provided during school hours Including the supply of any materials, books,
instruments or other equipment;
education provided outside school hours if it is part of the national curriculum or part
of religious education;
instrumental or vocal tuition for pupils learning individually or in groups, unless the
tuition is provided at the request of a pupil’s parent. Charges cannot be made if teaching is part of the national curriculum or is provided under the first access to KS2 Instrumental and Vocal Tuition. See below for further details of music tuition at BPS;
entry for a prescribed public examination if the pupil has been prepared for it at school
exam re-sits(s) if the pupil is being prepared for it at school. However if the child fails, without good reason, to meet exam requirements, the fee may be recovered.
Schools and Local Authorities can charge for:
any materials, books, instruments or equipment where the child’s parent wishes him/her to own them. This includes but is not limited to cooking club charges and the Early Years baking fund;
music and vocal tuition either individually or in a group provided at the request of the pupil’s parent. See below for further details of music tuition at BPS;
any hours over and above the 15 hours free entitlement for children who attend our nursery and are below 5 years of age;
community facilities;
optional extras (see full policy below).
